Regis, I would like to poll the audience

My secretary/office manager and I are on pretty casual terms as far as a boss/employee relationship goes. I hear a lot of things about her personal life that I am not sure would get discussed under other circumstances. We kid around a lot too.

So yesterday, she came in wearing a nice spring shirt that was kind of form fitting. No more provactive than a T shirt, but form fitting nonetheless. For some reason, her “headlights” were on all day.

I am very sensitive to the whole sexual harassment issue thing, and very careful about my comments to her. One of the other men who work here looked at her and said “nice shirt”. So when she went home and looked in the mirror, she realized why he said it. She comes back today to tell me about his comment, and she had a look on her face that said “why didn’t you tell me?”

So what would be a good way to discretely point out that she was in danger of putting someone’s eye out, without being sued?

Help!

Karma? Fate? Coincidence?

Notice: In this post I will be mentioning God. If this offends you, please do not continue reading.

In order to put things into perspective, I need to list the following extra curricular activities that I am currently involved in.

1. Chorus – Tuesday nights
2. Quartet- Sunday afternoons, and another night during the week
3. Chorus Board member- Meet once a month, take care of projects as needed
4. Track Coach for K-4th grade girls. Monday nights and Saturday Track Meets
5. Athletic Committee Secretary- Once a month, take care of projects as needed.

So when I was asked to consider being the percussion instructor for HHS, I had to think long and hard about whether I could stand having another iron in the fire, and whether my family responsibilities would get neglected.

Last year, I was the 5th and 6th grade track coach, and they met on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I had just about made up my mind NOT to take the percussion job because I just could not find a way to make it work out. Then the coordinator of the track program called me and told me that he needed to switch me to the k-4 girls, and that he would only need me on Monday nights.

So all of the sudden, I have a free night. I went to my first meeting to talk to the kids and the director, and it turned out that their best night, for now, was Thursday. I don’t believe in coincidences like this. I think that God wants me to work with this line, cause their was no other way that all of this could have fallen into place like it has.

The other clue that I got was that so far, I have been welcomed with open arms and the school seems to be committed to having the program go in the direction that I want it to.

So things are going well, and I am excited. I will have more to talk about later

I have no words....

One of my very close friends commented that I had not posted here in a while, which is true. There are several reasons, one being my insane schedule, but the bigger reason is my state of mind right now.

I heard a story on the radio on the way into work this morning that sums it up better than I can. To paraphrase:

During or after the Reds Opening Day parade on Monday of this week, a woman driving a van was seen parked at a curb in one of the depressed areas of Cincinnati ( the name escapes me right now). Witnesses say that the argument escalated and the man she was arguing with pulled a gun and shot her.

The un named woman pulled away and drove several blocks until she lost consciousness, crossed the center line, and wrecked the van. Police are now reporting that while the woman lay slumped over the wheel of her van, bystanders ransacked the van and emptied her purse. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

I think it is pertinent to mention that this all happened in or near the area called Over the Rhine, which was the scene of the race riots in Cincinnati five years ago.

Reading and hearing and seeing things like this makes writing about my second grade girls track team feel a little trivial.
