I have no words....
One of my very close friends commented that I had not posted here in a while, which is true. There are several reasons, one being my insane schedule, but the bigger reason is my state of mind right now.
I heard a story on the radio on the way into work this morning that sums it up better than I can. To paraphrase:
During or after the Reds Opening Day parade on Monday of this week, a woman driving a van was seen parked at a curb in one of the depressed areas of Cincinnati ( the name escapes me right now). Witnesses say that the argument escalated and the man she was arguing with pulled a gun and shot her.
The un named woman pulled away and drove several blocks until she lost consciousness, crossed the center line, and wrecked the van. Police are now reporting that while the woman lay slumped over the wheel of her van, bystanders ransacked the van and emptied her purse. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
I think it is pertinent to mention that this all happened in or near the area called Over the Rhine, which was the scene of the race riots in Cincinnati five years ago.
Reading and hearing and seeing things like this makes writing about my second grade girls track team feel a little trivial.

What an awful story. But..it's the stories about your little girls track team that show us that there is still good things out there and helps take our minds off the bad :)

I can't tell you how many people told me not to watch the news, especially "war" news, while the hubby was away. But I thought that was crazy. I didn't want to be ignorant of the goings-on in the world, and it felt wrong to live carefree when there was so much suffering everywhere.
I've since realized, though, that sometimes I do need a respite from "awareness," just to keep some inner peace. For my family's sake, I stop watching the news for a few days and focus on them. It helps me see the good in things and inspires me to make what little changes I can. And reading a story about a young girl's track team can definitely bring hope and inspiration... :)
